CIS 656, sections 101 and 103 Fall 2002 Instructor: Dr Ott Monday 6:00 - 9:05 Fac 408. The class meets: 9/9, 9/16, 9/23, 9/30, 10/07, 10/14, 10/21, 10/28, 11/04, 11/11, 11/18, 11/25, 12/02, 12/09, 12/16. Mini Midterm: 10/07 (about 45 minutes, plus 135 minutes class). Maxi Midterm: 11/11 (about 1 hour, plus 120 minutes class). Final: 12/16 (about 2 hours, no class). There will be homework. (1) Reading, from Forouzan, from RFCs, maybe some other reading. (2) Problems from Forouzan (usually not graded). (3) Other homework problems (usually graded). See the ``homework page''. There will be a project. Similar to the projects in Fall 2001 and Spring 2002. Details will be provided by end Sept. Grading 10% homework. 10% mini-midterm 20% maxi-midterm 25% project 35% final Grading: Roughly: You need a 90% score for an A. (Though, last semester I gave some people with about 87% score an A, because I felt they deserved it). With a score of below 50% you may fail. I may adjust a little, but with a score below 45% you almost certainly fail. Boundaries in-between (C, C+, B, B+) roughly equidistant. --- About the class project: The project will be done in teams. All members of a team get the same score. Teams consist of either 2 persons (prefered) or 1 person (not recommended). Grade depends on quality of product, NOT size of team. The project is divided in two parts: Mini Project (Read and Print Packet). Maxi Project (Actual Routing, fragmentation, etc). More follows. Teams due: Oct 22 11:00 pm. Mini Project due: Nov 04 noon. Maxi Project due: Nov 25 noon. However: The ``mini project'' is a small job (for anybody). The ``maxi project'' is small only for students who have paid attention in class AND are fairly good programmers. You should be well on your way with the maxi project on Nov 04.
