Homework for 09/19/01:

Read Comer pp 37 - 61 (or more).
Get IETF RFC 1700 . (Start with  www.IETF.org  ,  etc).
Read pp 1 - 3 (or more).

Use that RFC to do (or answer) 1 - 3 below:

(1) Check that the version number of IPv4 indeed is 4.  (0100 in binary).

(2) Check that the content of the Frame Type field in an ethernet packet if 
the ethernet packet contains an IP packet indeed is  0800 (hexadec).
(0000 1000 0000 0000 in binary).

(3) What is the content of the Frame Type field in an ethernet packet if the 
ethernet packet contains an ARP packet? 

Show you indeed found the answers for 1 - 3 in RFC 1700 by copying a
paragraph of at least 15 lines, further as short as possible, and by
highlighting the relevant line or lines.

(4) Why  MUST  the FT fields be different for IP and ARP?

(5) Answer question 3.3 (p 61) in Comer.
